INTRO
Nagold 2019 has been Liv Kristine’s ninth concert in a row in Alte Seminarturnhalle/ Nagold. Don’t be fooled, if you are a fan of Liv, it has become a tradition that Christmas already begins the Friday before Christmas.
Getting to Nagold is an adventure each year because as Vera Nijveld once told me “Nagold is in the middle of nowhere“. Maybe not exactly like this due to the fact that a big city like Stuttgart is just about 40 kilometers from there but getting to Nagold requires a lot of travel arrangements either in your own car or in a rental or a combination of various means of public transport.

I would like to share with you my experiences that turn a simple concert report into a travel diary for you to get an idea of what it was like or to simply write down an experience that I believe cannot get any better than the year before but it simply can, which is one of Liv’s greatnesses.

This year the journey turned out to be especially expensive from Barcelona so that I decided to benefit from the creativity and the romantic spirit of Willy Fog which characterizes me best.
Surprisingly the flight to Basel (Switzerland), yes, you’re reading well, Switzerland, cost only 19.99 Euros in comparison to those 80 Euros which a ticket to Stuttgart would have cost. That is why I started to do some research on possible combinations of every type of transport. I quickly eliminated a coach to Freiburg (let us take in mind that the EuroAirport is right at the border between Basel in Switzerland, Freiburg in Germany and Mulhouse in France) because it took four hours. A car rental which allows you to cross the border to Germany was too expensive so I opted for the train.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH BASEL
I arrived to Basel at 9 am and had some hours to visit the city center which I already knew from Liv’s two concerts in Pratteln in 2012 and 2013 and went to Media Markt, which is located right at the Basel SBB central Station, in order to buy some records. It was a dull day with bearable temperatures, which allowed me to take a stroll across Barfüsserplatz with its Christmas Market. I was surprised by the amount of Swiss flags and city emblems in the streets and in the windows, which shows how much the people identify with their country and city. Neither in Catalonia nor in Spain are we used to this.

STUTTGART ENCHANT ME
After I had returned to the train station I took a fast train in direction to Cologne. I was surprised that the train had 30 waggons! Being modern and comfortable it allowed me to get more insight in German geography and landscapes, one part more interesting than the previous one. In Karlsruhe I had to change trains, this time in direction to Hanover and got off in Stuttgart. On the train ride I met Caroline, a nice woman from Venezuela, engineer by profession and cook by vocation. We talked about traveling, culture, Liv Kristine and she told me where in Königsstraße I could find some gifts for my children. Nice to learn that “Frozen“ and football can be found almost everywhere (laughter). A detour to Saturn looking for more records and a very short stop at the Christmas market and at Schloßplatz completed my short, intense visit to the city center of Stuttgart. Unfortunately there was no time left for me to go to Second Hand, a record store that Liv had recommended to me. This goes up onto the bucket list for 2020.

MY CONCERT BEGAN A LOT BEFORE…
From there I picked up my rental car to get to Nagold. It was already getting dark at 4 pm. I started recognizing those small towns and roads. This is also part of the experience. A little layback of the soundcheck allowed me to arrive in time to watch it. When I entered the door to the venue Liv greeted me while singing and I immediately saw Anette Uvaas Gulbrandsen sitting close to the stage. I was so happy to finally meet her in person since we had known each other only virtually. Before I wanted to sit down to talk to her, someone was calling me by my name und gave me a hug. It was Michael – Mikkel – Hansen, Liv’s fiancé. An absolutely amazing person, who, just having met me for the very first time – offered me all the perks of the venue that you could have thought of.

We were chatting for a few minutes until Liv came down from the stage. She welcomed me warmly and it already became clear to me that my journey had been worth the effort, because Liv turns any event into something special. Anette, Liv and me sat down to chat and Anette gave me two copies (vinyl and CD), both signed and with a dedication to me) of The Sabbathian’s Latum Alterum, which I appreciated a lot.

A bit later two “virtual friends“ and members of the Facebook community “Liv Kristine Fans Assembly“, Rocco Cogliati and Chris Smiedi arrived with whom I should stay together until the early morning. Two adorable and attentive guys who also had traveled to Nagold on their own. Within those few minutes we had established our very own UNO with Anette – one Norwegian, one German, one Italian and one Spaniard. If this had been soccer, I would have repeated what Johan Cruyff stated many years ago that “it’s always eleven against eleven and at the end the Germans always win“. But since this is about music it’s pretty obvious that we made friendship, shared our experiences, thoughts and anecdotes, some glasses of wine and even more funny stories. It was a night to remember and repeat. Being given admission to the venue before door open made it possible for us to be the first ones to purchase the new merchandise, to have the very first copies in our hands and to buy the entire stock of The Sabbathian before anyone else had the chance to.

AUDIONAUT
As always the venue had an excellent dinner ready to our convenience before the concert.
Audionaut, a quartet that mixes rock, metal and some stoner rock entered the stage at 8 pm. After the band members had managed to get over their first stage fright, the music turned out to be very agile and fit well to the voice of their vocalist Hope Nightrose. The band played their set very confidently. “At the End of the Day“ was one of their bests tracks played at that concert. As always I really appreciated the fact that the Alte Seminarturnhalle tends to chose local acts as support for Liv Kristine, which the locals music scene seems to benefit a lot from.

LIV, AN EARTHQUAKE
The clock finally struck nine and everyone was waiting impatiently on their seats. The intro allowed the musicians to enter the stage and Liv had the audience cheering for her as soon as she opened the concert with “Vervain“. Right from the start I was aware of the fact that this concert would happen with such a vertigo, like always when you have been awaiting an event for so long. Liv did not want to make us wait any longer and welcomed her special guest Anette Uvaas Gulbrandsen, her best friend from Norway, on stage. Together they performed “Stronghold of Angels“ which – if I’m not wrong – was sung live for the very first time. Anette performed excellently despite of her nerves and I think that her voice fit very well to Liv’s, as they have already proven various times on records (let’s not forget that Anette collaborated with Leaves’ Eyes and that Liv did so for The Sabbathian).

For “Oblivious“, one of my favorite tracks from “Vervain“, Anette contributed the backing vocals and the result turned out to be marvelous. But Liv decided to throw more oil on the fire as she began to play “Love Decay“, a song that I have always preferred in the version without Michelle Darkness and the response from the fans was unanimous when they cheered even more for “Image“, the first Theatre of Tragedy song of the concert.
Liv closed the first part of the concert with the three songs “Silence“, “Panic“ and “Siren“ which have become classics in her repertoire. Even though those songs are loaded with emotions, this time “Silence“ turned out to be overwhelming since it managed to create an atmosphere that no one was able to escape from. After 40 minutes already half of the concert had passed and we watched the rest of the concert with Anette with whom we were able to share the feelings and emotions of of her experience on stage.

The second half of the concert was not as balanced as the first one but equally celebrated by her fans. “Commute“ and “Machine“ have always been very special moments in her concerts. “The Man with the Child in his Eyes“, even though it is a great interpretation of the song, has never been among my favorites but this time it made me change my opinion. Liv interpreted the song very wholeheartedly and managed to transmit her emotions very honestly. After having won the audience it was time to preset her two new songs. I had had the chance to listen to “Gravity“ some weeks before and to Skylight during the soundcheck but now it was time to see how these two songs work out live. The finals result was more than perfect and both songs passed their test. The fans paid attention to the details, to Liv’s voice and to the melodies. The last time that Liv had sung a song live before it was published on CD had been “Libertine“ in 2011, during her very first Nagold concert. I really adored “Gravity“, very intimate, very deep.

When Liv and her band returned after a short break, the stage filled with magic because it was the first time after five years that Liv performed “A Distance There Is“, the theme of her career. Together with “The Rarest Flower“ it is the song of my life and listening to the songs live I was no longer able to hold back my emotions and my tears; I could not help myself but to close my eyes and allowed myself to drift away to the melodies that Patrick played with his fingers while I felt as if Liv was singing only for me. A sensation that cannot be brought back.

As it has become a tradition for her Christmas concerts and especially for her Nagold show, it was now time for her very own interpretations of classic Christmas carols, for Schubert’s “Ave Maria“ and for “Pie Jesus“, a song that she sings every year in her soprano voice and that will never cease to enchant me. Liv had held back one more great surprise for the great finale of the concert – the piano version of “Skylight“, a tasty tidbit that I did not want to end ever, with incredible and uncountable beauty that brought a bright smile on my face for more than three minutes. Without doubt, this was one of the highlights of the concert. After the song a fan gave her a bouquet of flowers and the staff of the venue prepared a tray of beers for the band.

The concert ended after 1:45 hours with “Love Decay“ once more as encore, this time with the entire audience up on their feet, climbing up onto the stage, hugging the musicians and giving back to them the passions that they had put on stage.

AFTER PARTY
The after show party began directly after the last song and Liv spent once again more than three hours with her fans. Even though she was tired and exhausted she did not cease to smile and chat with everyone. No one had to leave with our a photo, an autograph or without being given the chance to talk to her because Liv values her fans very highly.

I spent the rest of the evening with Anette, Rocco and Chris but I also got to know Vera Nijveld, her husband Marco von Smuda and Chantal Lodewikus who turned out to be very lovely; I also met Uli from the north of Germany and Adam Brown and Nick Clark from England. It is always a great pleasure to meet Anna Finke, a very lovely, kind and always helpful person, as well as Ina and Klaus, two close friends of Liv, with whom I also had the chance to chat. In between all those glasses of white wine had taken an effect and the evening ended with all her fans still present at the venue climbing up onto the stage to take a photo that you might have seen on social networks.

It was later than 2 pm and I had a room at the same hotel where Liv and her band were staying (thank you, Liv). Now it was time for one last adventure with the keys to the hotel room, wasn’t it, Anette?
Time to take a shower, to sleep a couple of hours and to leave again for the airport since my plane was about to depart early in the morning.

A very short trip, just enough time to open and close your eyes, asking yourself if all of this had just been a dream. Everything couldn’t have been more perfect since dreams are meant to be lived.
Thank you to all the people that I met on this journey but especially to Liv and Mikkel for making me feel at home as always, like one additional band member and for offering me all the amenities during this trip; to Anette for a fantastic evening full of joy, laughter and complicity; to Rocco and Chris for being the best company during the show, I hope to repeat this with you in 2020; to Anna for being so adorable and to Vera for being so close.

Ye, in this report I would like to recall all of them because Nagold is neither just an event nor only a place for Liv and her fans; Nagold is a very personal event for all of us that goes way beyond the music; it is like a family reunion each year right before Christmas.

INTRO
Nagold 2019 ha supuesto el noveno concierto de Liv Kristine en el Alte Seminarturnhalle de Nagold y de forma consecutiva. No, que no te engañen, si eres fan de Liv la navidad empieza el último viernes de diciembre antes de navidad. Porque al fin y al cabo la navidad, como este evento, es una tradición.
Visitar Nagold supone cada año una aventura porque como me dijo Vera Nijveld, “Nagold está en medio de la nada”. Quizá no sea exactamente así, pero una ciudad como Stuttgart está a unos 40 kilómetros por lo que llegar allí requiere planificar el viaje en coche propio o de alquiler, o la combinación de transporte público.

Me gusta explicaros mis experiencias para convertir una crónica de un concierto en un diario de viaje, por si alguien coge alguna idea o porque simplemente quiero dejar escrita una vivencia que cada año pienso que no puede mejorar la anterior, pero siempre lo hace, esa es una de las grandezas de Liv.

Este año el viaje resultaba especialmente caro desde Barcelona así que decidí tirar de ingenio y de ese espíritu romántico y de Willy Fog que me caracteriza.
Sorprendentemente el vuelo a Basel (Suiza), sí Suiza, lees bien, costaba solo 19.99 euros por los 80 que costaba la ida a Stuttgart así que empecé a pensar en posibles combinaciones en todo tipo de transportes. Descarté rápido un bus que enlazara Freiburg (recordemos que el EuroAirport es un aeropuerto fronterizo compartido por Basel en Suiza, Freiburg en Alemania y Mulhouse en Francia) porque tardaba cuatro horas. El coche de alquiler, al cruzar la frontera se disparaba de precio. Opté por el tren.

BASEL ME ENAMORA
Llegué a Basel a las 09h00 de la mañana y me guardé un par de horas para visitar el centro de la ciudad, que ya conocía de mis experiencias con Liv en 2012 y 2013 en Pratteln, y para comprar unos discos en el Media Markt que hay justo en la estación central de tren Banhof Basel SBB. Era un día gris de temperatura agradable que me permitió un relajado paseo por la Barfüssenplatz, donde empieza el Weihnachtsmarkt. Siempre me ha sorprendido la cantidad de banderas suizas y escudos de la ciudad que hay por las calles y en las casas, como si de una reafirmación de identidad se tratara. No, ni en Catalunya ni en España estamos acostumbrados a ello.

STUTTGART ME EMBELESA
De vuelta a la estación de tren me subo en un regional de alta velocidad dirección a Köln. Mi primera sorpresa es que se trata de un tren de ¡¡¡30 vagones!!! Moderno y cómodo, me permite ir viendo otras estampas de la geografía germana, unas más interesantes que otras. En Karlsruhe cambio de convoy, en esta ocasión dirección a Hannover pero con parada en Stuttgart. De camino conozco a Carolina, una mujer venezolana encantadora, ingeniera de profesión y cocinera por vocación. Conversamos de viajes, de cultura, de Liv Kristine y me indica en qué puntos de la Königstrasse puedo encontrar unos detalles que llevarles a mis hijos. Menos mal que Frozen y el fútbol están casi en todas partes (risas). Una visita a Saturn en busca de más discos y una rapidísima visita al Weihnachtmarkt y a la Schlossplatz completaron mi breve, intensa y enamoradiza visita al centro de Stuttgart.
Lamentablemente no me quedó tiempo para ir a Second Hand, una tienda de discos que Liv me había recomendado. Lo dejo en la lista de pendientes para 2020.

MI CONCIERTO EMPEZÓ MUCHO ANTES…
De ahí a recoger mi coche de alquiler para ir a Nagold. Ya oscurecía y apenas eran las 16h00. Empiezo a reconocer los pueblos que atravieso y algunas carreteras. Es lo que tiene la experiencia. Un pequeño retraso en la prueba de sonido me permite llegar a tiempo de verla. Al entrar por la puerta Liv me saluda mientras canta y de pronto veo a Anette Uvaas Gulbrandsen sentada frente al escenario. Me voy a saludarla. Me alegra mucho verla en persona pues nos conocemos virtualmente. Antes si quiera de sentarme a charlar con ella me gritan por la espalda por mi nombre y recibo un efusivo abrazo. Es Micheal Hansen, pareja de Liv. Una persona absolutamente fantástica que, sin conocerme de nada, me ofrece todas las comodidades que pueda necesitar.
Conversamos unos minutos hasta que Liv bajó del escenario. Nos saludamos, nos abrazamos y ahí ya tenía claro que mi viaje había vuelto a valer la pena, porque con Liv los encuentros siempre son especiales.

Nos sentamos Anette, Liv y yo a conversar de nuestras cosas, tranquilamente, empezamos a sentirnos a gusto, me firmaron y dedicaron un ejemplar en vinilo y otro en cd de ‘Latum alterum’ de The Sabbathian que guardo con sumo cariño.
Poco después llegaron dos amigos virtuales y miembros de la comunidad Liv Kristine Fans Assembly, Rocco Cogliati y Chris Smeidi, con quienes estuve hasta la madrugada. Dos chicos entrañables, muy atentos y que también habían viajado solos. A los pocos minutos habíamos establecido nuestra ONU particular junto a Anette… una noruega, un alemán, un italiano y un español. Si esto fuera fútbol, como dijo Johan Cruyff hace muchos años, “a futbol siempre juegan 11 contra 11 y siempre ganan los alemanes” pero como era música lo cierto es que forjamos una bonita amistad, compartimos vivencias, experiencias, pensamientos, risas, copas de vino y más risas. Fue una velada maravillosa que espero volver a repetir.
Entrar antes a la sala también nos permitió comprar el merchandising antes que nadie, tener esas primeras unidades y prácticamente agotar el stock de The Sabbathian.

AUDIONAUT
Como siempre, sirvieron la cena poco antes del concierto por lo que la comodidad era máxima.
Para las ocho de la tarde aparecieron Audionaut en el escenario, un quinteto que mezcla Rock, Metal y algo de Stoner. Superados los nervios iniciales, su música resultó ágil y en la que destacaba la voz de Hope Nightrose, que fue de menos a más. Musicalmente la banda resulta solvente y suena compacta. “At the end of the day” fue uno de los mejores cortes del concierto. Siempre me ha gustado que la organización de Alte Seminarturnhalle apueste por artistas de la zona para abrir los conciertos de Liv Kristine por cuanto hay que potenciar la escena local.

LIV, UN VENDAVAL
Pero llegaban las nueve de la noche, ya con todo el mundo en sus asientos. La intro permitió el ingreso de los músicos en el escenario y Liv se llevó todos los vítores con el inicio de “Vervain”. Desde buen principio volvió a quedar clara una cosa y es que el concierto se iba a suceder a velocidad de vértigo, como suele pasar cuando esperas algo con muchas ganas. Liv no quiso esperar más y de buen inicio hizo subir al escenario a su invitada especial, Anette Uvaas Gulbrandsen, su mejor amiga noruega como ella misma nos dijo al presentarla. Juntas interpretaron “Stronghold of angels” que, si no me falla la memoria era la primera vez que Liv la cantaba en directo. Anette rayó a un gran nivel pese a los nervios y creo que se compenetra muy bien con Liv como han demostrado en disco varias veces (no olvidemos que Anette ya colaboró con Leaves’ Eyes y Liv lo ha hecho con The Sabbathian).

Para “Oblivious”, uno de mis temas preferidos de ‘Vervain’, Anette hizo las segundas voces y el resultado volvió a ser óptimo. Pero Liv quería echar más leña al fuego y empezó a sonar “Love decay”, un tema que siempre he preferido sin Michelle Darkness y la respuesta de los fans fue unánime en un crescendo que culminó con “Image”, la primera mirada a Theatre of Tragedy del concierto.
Y para acabar la primera parte del concierto llegó un trío de esos que te estremecen con “Silence”, “Panic” y ”Siren” que se han convertido en clásicos de su repertorio. Y aunque la carga emocional siempre es superlativa en estas canciones, en esta ocasión “Silence” resultó sobrecogedora creando una atmósfera realmente envolvente. En apenas 40 minutos ya se había esfumado medio concierto entre risas y emociones. Mientras, presenciábamos el concierto junto a Anette con quien pudimos compartir las sensaciones de su experiencia en el escenario.

La segunda parte del show fue menos equilibrada pero igual de celebrada por los fans. “Commute” y “Machine” siempre son momentos muy celebrados en sus conciertos. Pero luego llegó “The man with the child in his eyes” que, pese a ser una gran versión no es de mis favoritas y, como me ha sucedido ya varias veces, consiguió hacerme cambiar de opinión. Liv la cantó con el corazón en la mano y trasladándonos su emoción. Con el público ya en el bolsillo era hora de presentar los dos temas nuevo. Había escuchado “Gravity” unas semanas atrás y “Skylight” en la prueba de sonido pero era hora de ver como se comportaban en vivo. El resultado final fue más que óptimo y ambos temas pasaron la prueba de fuego del directo con nota. Los fans prestaban atención a los detalles, a la voz de Liv, a las melodías. Resultaba curioso ver las caras de asombro de la gente. La última vez que Liv estrenó un tema en directo antes que en disco fue “Libertine” en 2011, en su primer año en Nagold. “Gravity” me encantó en directo, tan intimista, tan profunda.

Liv y sus chicos volvían a retirarse y a su vuelta… a su vuelta el escenario se llenó de magia porque hacía cinco años que Liv no cantaba en directo “…a distance there is”, el tema estandarte de su carrera. Sí, junto a “The rarest flower” es el tema de mi vida y al escucharlo no pude evitar la emoción y las lágrimas, no pude evitar cerrar los ojos y dejarme llevar por las melodías que desprendían los dedos de Patrick mientras sentía como si Liv cantara solo para mí. Una sensación casi irrepetible.

Como ya es tradición en los conciertos navideños, y especialmente en Nagold, llegaba la hora de los temas tradicionales, el “Ave Maria” de Schubert y “Pie Jesu”, una canción que cada vez canta en tonos más altos y que no deja de maravillarme año tras año.
Pero el final del concierto nos tenía reservada una gran sorpresa como fue la interpretación de “Skylight” solo con piano y voz, una absoluta delicia que no quería que terminara, de belleza incalculable y que me tuvo con una sonrisa en la cara durante más de tres minutos. Sin duda fue uno de los grandes momentos del concierto. Al finalizar la canción un fan le hizo entrega de un ramo de flores y prepararon una bandeja con cervezas para toda la banda.

Y el concierto, de una hora y tres cuartos terminaba con aquello de “zugabe, zugabe” que les obligaba a salir al escenario y volvieron a tocar “Love decay” pero en esta ocasión con todo el público levantado de sus sillas, bordeando el escenario, arropando a los músicos, devolviéndoles la pasión que ellos habían puesto en el escenario.

AFTER PARTY
Y cuando la actuación terminó empezó la after party, empezó el encuentro de Liv con sus fans, con los que estuvo durante más de tres horas. Cansada y agotada no dejó de sonreir y departir con todo el mundo. Nadie se fue sin una foto, un autógrafo o sin charlar con ella, porque Liv sabe que su mayor valuarte son sus fans.
Yo pasé la noche con Anette, Rocco y Chris pero también conocí a Vera Nijveld, su marido Marco von Schmuda y Chantal Lodewikus que resultaron ser encantadores; coincidí también con Uli, del norte de Alemania, y Adam Brown y Nick Clark de Inglaterra; siempre es un placer enorme encontrarme con Anna Finke, una mujer encantadora, afable y siempre muy atenta conmigo y también con dos amigos muy allegados de Liv como son Ina y Klaus con los que también tuve ocasión de departir. Y entre todo eso las copas de vino blanco iban cayendo e iban haciendo su efecto en una noche que acabó ya tarde con todos nosotros subidos en el escenario con Liv para hacernos alguna foto que quizá verás por redes sociales.

Eran más de las dos de la madrugada y me hospedaba en el mismo hotel que Liv y sus chicos (gracias Liv!!!) y aún hubo tiempo para una última aventura con las llaves del hotel ¿verdad Anette?
Tiempo para una ducha, dormir un par de horas y partir hacia el aeropuerto pues mi avión de vuelta partía prontito en la mañana.
Un viaje relámpago, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, como si de un sueño se tratara ¿habrá sido un sueño? Desde luego que todo fue tan perfecto que bien pudo haberlo sido, porque los sueños son para vivirlos.

OUTRO
Y acabo como se acaban los discos, con algunos agradecimientos: Gracias a todas las personas con las que he compartido este viaje pero muy especialmente a Liv y Michael por hacerme sentir siempre como en casa, como uno más de la banda y por darme todas las facilidades y comodidades en mi viaje; a Anette por una tarde/noche/madrugada fantástica llena de risas, amistad y complicidad; a Rocco y Chris por ser la mejor compañía en este evento, espero repetir con vosotros en 2020; a Anna por ser adorable; y a Vera por ser tan cercana.

Sí, en este reportaje he querido acordarme de todos ellos porque Nagold no es un evento ni un lugar cualquiera para Liv y sus fans, Nagold es un evento muy personal para todos nosotros que trasciende más allá de la música. Somos como una pequeña familia que se reúne cada año justo antes de navidad.

HELLOWEEN – PUMPKINS UNITED
11.11.2017, Porsche Arena, Stuttgart

Una de las noticias metaleras del año ha sido sin duda la reunión de Helloween con Kai Hansen y Michael Kiske y su consiguiente gira. Lo cierto es que todo se ha cocinado a fuego lento y de una forma un tanto extraña pues no es normal que un evento de este calibre vaya anunciando fecha únicas en todos los países, de forma desordenada, que no toquen en su ciudad, Hamburgo, y que tan solo hagan cuatro fechas en su país. Entiendo que van a estar en todos los festivales de verano pero también creo que podrían sacarle más partido a esta reunión aunque quien sabe si no habrá nueva gira por salas en la segunda mitad de 2018.
Recuerdo haber comprado las entradas en enero y que no me las podían enviar hasta abril. Muy raro todo pero finalmente los tickets llegaron y el concierto también.

Fin de semana en Stuttgart, una ciudad que ofrece posibilidades pero que no da de sí más que un fin de semana. Cierto que la climatología tampoco acompañó mucho.
Llegamos a la ciudad y lo primero que hicimos fue visitar varias tiendas de discos para acabar haciendo algunas compras en Saturn y Media Markt… que nadie piense que son como las tiendas que tienen aquí de esas cadenas. Cientos de discos y cosas muy interesantes en las que invertir algunos euros.
Nuestra siguiente parada era un encuentro con Liv Kristine para comer en el que nos pusimos al día de muchas cosas, musicales y personales, pero eso son otros menesteres.
Y a media tarde, con una tarde muy gris y de cielo encapotado, nos fuimos a dejar el equipaje al hotel, cercano al escenario del concierto y de allí al Porsche Arena en transporte público. Que nadie se lo pierda, con la entrada tenías incluido el transporte público al concierto, de ida y de vuelta… como en España… a eso se le llama potenciar la cultura y el no uso del coche. Se trata de un pabellón moderno con capacidad para unas cinco mil personas en grada. Los stands de merchandising se encontraban en el hall del pabellón y las colas eran casi interminables en busca del recuerdo perfecto de una gira histórica. Los precios son los de las bandas con caché, es decir, 25 euros camisetas, 45 sudaderas y 25 gorras entre otros. No había quien se resistiera a un souvenir.

Para acceder a la pista había que bajar a la planta de abajo y ya con el pabellón lleno y con sold out no se notaban agobios ni empujones, otro punto a favor de la organización, no vender más tickets de la cuenta.
No habían teloneros y tras sonar buen Heavy Metal para amenizar la espera, empezó la intro oficial de la gira, el “Let me entertain you” de Robbie Williams. Muy acertado el título aunque no tanto la canción.
La alegría del público se convierte en éxtasis con las primeras notas de “Halloween”. Eran demasiados años esperando a ver la reunión de los clásicos Helloween tocando temas que tienen más de treinta años y que siguen sonando tan vigentes como entonces.
El espectáculo musical se ve complementado con proyecciones y una iluminación que realza la luminosidad de la banda. Los músicos sonríen, se cruzan, se miran y se muestran cómplices y en perfecta comunión con un público desatado que no deja de cantar cada estrofa. No obstante, empezar el concierto con “Halloween” significa poner toda la carne en el asador desde el primer momento.
Andi Deris, Michael Kiske y Kai Hansen pronto se hacen con la pasarela central dejándose querer por la multitud.
Este primer tramo estaba dedicado a clasicazos como “Dr. Stein” y “I’m alive” donde Michael Kiske dejó muy claro que de playback nada, que pudo haber tenido problemas en el primero concierto de la gira latino americana pero que ahora mismo se encuentra en estado de gracia, dando un recital monumental. Todo está a la altura excepto las voces de apoyo de Kai en “Rise and fall” que no acaban de sonar bien.
Una de las incógnitas que tenía sobre esta gira era ver cómo se iban a complementar Kiske y Deris y ciertamente superaron mis expectativas mostrando una química entre ellos realmente mágica, como si llevaran toda la vida juntos. Se apoyan y se hacen mejor el uno al otro y donde no llega Kiske, llega Deris y viceversa. Deris, por su parte, ya olvidadas las críticas de cuando entró en la banda, no tiene nada que demostrar y es un frontman como la copa de un pino.

Otra duda que iba a resolverse, ¿cómo iba a encajar el público los temas de la era Deris entre clásicos de los “Keepers”? Pues muy bien, sobretodo cortes como “Perfect gentleman”, “I can” o “Power”, sin olvidarnos de “If I could fly”. El único corte que yo hubiera cambiado del setlist, y conste que es cuestión de gustos es “Are you Metal?” porque incluso “Waiting for the thunder” está a la altura de las expectativas.

Otra de las cuestiones a resolver era la química entre los músicos y el resultado fue más que satisfactorio pues la interacción, las sonrisas, la complicidad, los acercamientos y el compadreo entre ellos muestra que no hay solo dinero en esta reunión. Tan solo Michael Weikath queda un tanto al margen aunque lo atribuyo más a su carácter que a problemas de otra índole. De hecho muestra empatía con todos excepto con Michael Kiske con quien no cruza una sola mirada en todo el concierto, incluso se dan la espalda al estar en la pasarela central. Tan solo tres palmaditas en la espalda y colocarse uno al lado del otro para la foto de familia son los momentos en que se les puede ver juntos. Pero eso sí, los ves a los dos juntos sobre el escenario y se te pasa todo.

Eso sí, ver a Grosskopf y Kai Hansen juntos es una delicia y si a ellos se les une Weikath ya es el súmmum. Lo que me sorprendió fue el peso en la banda de Sascha Gerstner que no sufre complejo de inferioridad en ningún momento pese a estar rodeado de tanto mito y que tiene un peso en la banda muy destacable llegando al punto que al final de “Keeper of the seven keys” es el último en abandonar el escenario cuando podría haber sido el primero perfectamente.
El homenaje a Ingo Schwichtenberg es el momento más emotivo del concierto con un solo de batería en forma de duelo con Dani Löble de respirar hondo y tragar saliva. Repito y reitero, no veáis los videos en youtube si vais a verlos en concierto. Solo ver las imágenes y la sonrisa de Ingo la emoción se apodera de ti.

En general se trata de dos horas y cincuenta minutos de fiesta ininterrumpida porque entre tema y tema hay dos invitados muy entrañables para amenizar como son Seth y Doc que siendo una suerte Beavis and Butthead helloweenianos te sacan una sonrisa más con cada una de sus historias. Para el cierre, y mientras tocan “I want out”, sacan enormes globos de helio y lanzan kilos y kilos de confeti para acabar de convertir el Porsche Arena en una fiesta absoluta.

Maravilloso concierto, para el recuerdo, una gira para estar viéndola cada día porque hay tantos detalles, tantos momentos, tanta fiesta que es imposible no salir maravillado de este Pumpkins United.
Espera, espera que esto es una crónica del concierto de reunión de Helloween y fue una fiesta y esta crónica ha quedado bastante formalita. Déjame que te haga un resumen…
El concierto de Helloween en Stuttgart ha sido la puta hostia, una fiesta que no debía haber terminado, de esas que no te borran la sonrisa de la cara en tres horas, que te dan ganas de llorar cuando empiezan con “Halloween” y en el homenaje a Ingo, que te destrozas las garganta cantando “Dr. Stein” o “Future world” y que cuando termina solo quieres vender tu alma al diablo porque sigan tocando. La madre que los parió, que buenos son, que concierto más brutal, que manera de hacerte vibrar, de hacerte sentir vivo y de contagiarte una energía que igual no sabía ni que existía ¡¡¡Por siempre Helloween!!!

“¡¡¡Happy, happy, happy, Helloween, Helloween!!!” Yo sigo con mi fiesta particular…
